Dr Shai Betteridge – Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist

Dr Shai Betteridge – Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist

Dr Betteridge is the Lead Consultant for assessment, therapies and rehabilitation services, and a founding member of Allied Neuro Therapy Ltd. She graduated in psychology in 1994 and subsequently worked in various areas related to the research and application of neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation. She graduated as a Health Psychologist from City University, London, in 1998, and obtained her Doctoral Qualification in Clinical Psychology from the University of Surrey in 2003. She obtained her postgraduate qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Institute of Psychiatry in 2006. She is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, a Full Practitioner Member of the Division of Neuropsychology, and she is HCPC registered.

During her career she has always had a special interest in neuropsychological rehabilitation and has published research and books in this field. She has worked at a number of world renowned institutions such as The Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Centre, St George’s Hospital, London; The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability; The Wellington Hospital, London, Broadmoor Hospital, and The Homerton University Hospital. She has also worked in various community neurorehabilitation teams in Surrey, City and Hackney. Her broad range of experience has helped her to develop extensive knowledge and experience in neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation. She has also set-up, developed, and clinical lead several new neurorehabilitation services, both within the public and private sector.  

Dr Betteridge also has a keen interest in national government agendas that impact on the field of neurorehabilitation and sits on various working parties committed to quality improvement and excellence (e.g. British Psychological Society Mental Capacity Act Advisory Group). She is also proactively involved in providing training to other clinicians, and she provides core teaching modules in neuropsychology for the Clinical Psychology Training courses in the South Thames Region and the Clinical Neuropsychology training courses nationally.

Sally de la Fontaine – Consultant Physiotherapist

Sally de la Fontaine – Consultant Physiotherapist

Sally is a highly skilled neuro-physiotherapist with particular interest in the rehabilitation of complex neurological disabilities and the evaluation and treatment of vestibular dysfunction. She has considerable experience of working with community-based support teams, providing training to families and support workers, receiving positive feedback on her team working and ability to engage clients in real world exercise beyond the clinic room.   

Sally has extensive expertise in the field of neurology, having graduated as a physiotherapist in 1986 from The Middlesex Hospital, London, specialising in neurology in 1989 at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, London. She has since worked in neurology at St Mary’s Hospital (London), The Wolfson Neurology Unit (London), Unsted Park Rehabilitation Unit (near Guildford) and Heatherwood Hospital (Ascot). In 1998 Sally began working in independent practice and in 2004 opened her own purpose-built rehabilitation clinic, Milestones 

She is an active member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists Interested in Neurology (ACPIN), the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists with an Interest in Vestibular Rehabilitation (ACPIVR), Surrey Acquired Brain Injury Network steering group (SABIN) and Physio First, which represents chartered physiotherapists in private practice. Sally is recognised as a leader in her field and provides clinical teaching, consultation and supervision to a wide range of public and private sector practitioners and organisations. 

Sally uses a problem-solving approach and, as with all of our partners, Sally is a keen advocate for comprehensive holistic rehabilitation approaches using a biopsychosocial model – the idea that through engagement in physical, psychological and social processes people can live life without being dominated by their disability. Through supervision she inspires her large team of physiotherapists, trainers and massage therapists to follow the same approach in their work.

Laura Slader – Consultant Occupational Therapist

Laura Slader – Consultant Occupational Therapist

Laura is the Lead Consultant Occupational Therapist, and a founding member of Allied Neuro Therapy. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. She graduated in Occupational Therapy from Brunel University in 1993 and has completed specialist training with Bobath, Carr & Shepherd and Rood. She worked in the NHS for 15 years, in the fields of accident and emergency, general medicine and neurology (including acute brain injury, neurorehabilitation, community and vocational rehabilitation) before moving into operational and strategic management of community rehabilitation services. Whilst working in Australia, South Africa and Saudi Arabia, Laura developed a unique and eclectic approach to assessment and neurorehabilitation. 

She established Laura Slader OT services (LSOT Ltd) in 2009. Her company has had contracts providing specialist neurorehabilitation into NHS and independent rehab units and schools.  She specialises in community neurorehabilitation of individuals who have sustained catastrophic brain injury and has experience of attending the High Court of Justice to provide evidence.  

Laura works actively with Headway and facilitates the Richmond HeadwaySW London group. She is also the consultant OT for Brain & Mind Ltd, providing specialist intervention for people with FND and supervision to OTs nationally working in this field. 

Laura is renowned for her creative approach and ‘thinking outside the box’ to help clients achieve their aspirations. She has an exceptional ability for fostering ‘blue sky thinking’ and her motivational energy is infectious. She leads a large team of occupational therapists in providing neurorehabilitation programmes custom-built around the individual. She provides supervision and consultation to her team who work extensively in the medico-legal field. She ensures all of her supervisees follow her flexible, adaptive model that gets results. She has an integrative, goal-focused style and is dedicated to getting the best outcomes for all patients.

Sally Ghibaldan – Consultant Speech and Language Therapist

Sally Ghibaldan – Consultant Speech and Language Therapist

Sally is the Lead Consultant Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) and a founding member of Allied Neuro Therapy. She established her company Linguistic Resolutions in 2007 to provide intensive neuro SLT to those who had sustained life changing injuries. She has practiced for 19 years as an SLT and is an experienced, creative clinician working exclusively with acquired neurological impairments. Sally has worked in a wide range of NHS and private settings; acute inpatient wards, rehabilitation wards (including the MoD’s former Headley Court, The RRU and BIRT), outpatient clinics, client’s homes, nursing homes/residential units and in the community in general.

Sally recognises that regaining communication skills means regaining one’s dignity, control and enjoyment in life. To that end Sally emphasises collaborative working with clients, families, friends, colleagues and team members to develop meaningful treatment goals, activities and strategies. Although she works with a wide range of clients, Sally has special interests in cognitive communication disorders (CCD), dysphasia, dyspraxia and facial palsy. Sally has the expertise, character and determination to support complex neuro clients from the start to the end of their rehabilitation journey. She finds it an absolute privilege to work with this client group.

Sally leads a team of 40 clinicians, all with exceptional skills and expertise. Sally ensures that the service is always about clinical excellence, holistic SLT and the team being pioneers in innovation. She offers a unique service to both her clients and the team that work with her.

Professor Mark Edwards – Consultant Neurologist

Professor Mark Edwards – Consultant Neurologist

Professor Mark Edwards is a Professor of Neurology with a specialist interest in Functional Neurological Disorder, Parkinson’s Disease, Tourette’s Syndrome and other movement disorders and the common overlap between neurological and psychiatric difficulties in those with neurological illnesses.

In NHS practice Professor Edwards works within specialist neuropsychiatry services at the Maudsley Hospital providing neurological expertise in assessment, medical treatment and rehabilitation for people with a mixed neurological, psychiatric and psychological need. This includes seeing patients in acute, outpatient and rehabilitation settings. He is also involved in regional and national work in developing improved care pathways for patients with neurological illness.

Professor Edwards is the author of over 350 peer reviewed publications, many book chapters and also the Oxford Specialist Handbook of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders.

Research interests:

Professor Edwards leads research into the pathophysiology and treatment of people with Movement Disorders, Functional Neurological Disorder and conditions which bridge neurological and psychiatric problems, and is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and training events for doctors and other health professionals.

Dr Michael Dilley – Consultant Neuropsychiatrist

Dr Michael Dilley is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist in Brain Injury at King’s College Hospital with specialinterests in traumatic and acquired brain injury and severe and complex functional neurological disorders requiring interdisciplinary rehabilitation.

In his NHS practice, Dr Dilley provides expertise across the entire integrated care pathway for patients with neuropsychiatric needs associated with brain injury.  This includes seeing patients in intensive care, in the acute brain injury and neurology units at King’s College Hospital, London and the Brain Injury Team Multidisciplinary Outpatient Service. He has extensive experience of rehabilitation for cognitive and neuropsychiatric problems across neurological conditions and in particular brain injury and functional neurological disorder.

Research interests:

Dr Dilley has a research interest in traumatic brain injury. He is a co-investigator in the National Institute of Health Research funded STOP-D Randomised Trial, a definitive trial of the prevention of depression after traumatic brain injury (https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR131125)

Professor Edwards and Dr Dilley, as leaders in their fields, recognise how difficult it can be to get integrated ‘brain-mind’ assessments and intensive rehabilitation. In addition to their work with the ANT Ltd team, this led to them founding their  highly successful private practice (Brain & Mind Ltd) at the Wellington Hospital, London. Their mission is to provide integrated ‘brain-mind’ assessment and intensive rehabilitation for complex neuropsychiatric presentations, specialising in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acquired brain injury and functional neurological disorders.
